A Segway is a two-wheeled, self-balancing, battery-powered electric vehicle. You will control the Segway with your body. The user commands the Segway to go forward by shifting their weight forward on the platform, and backward by shifting their weight backward. It stops as soon as you stand upright. It is not hard to find the right balance as the Segway is self-balancing. It is like skiing out of snow, child’s play.
The Segway is very environmental-friendly and barely makes any sound.
Riding a Segway isn’t only simple but extremely fun at the same time. You will feel free during this remarkable experience.
A Segway is allowed to ride on a cycle- or moped path. If no cycle path is available, you may use the roadway.
Segway on the road
With a Segway you are allowed to drive on the cycling road. If there is no designated cycling road, you can ride on the roadway.
Segway on the sidewalk, yes or no?
You’re only allowed to ride on the sidewalk if you’re handicapped. You either have a handicapped pass, public transport guide pass, Valyspass or a WMO-pass. All other Segway drivers are not allowed on the sidewalk.
Maximum speed Segway
The maximum speed of the Segway is 25 kilometers per hour. On the sidewalk there’s a speed limit of 6 kilometers per hour. You are only allowed to drive on the sidewalk if you have a handicapped pass, public transport guide pass, Valyspass or a WMO-pass.
Segway minimum age
You have to be at least 16 years old before you can drive a Segway.
Lighting Segway
On a Segway you need a red retro reflecting line on the back. On the outside of the wheels you need a white or yellow retro reflector.
Insurance mandatory
Without an insurance sticker you are not allowed to drive a Segway on public roads. You will get an insurance sticker automatically by completing the insurance policy.
Vehicle identification number Segway
The Segway also needs a vehicle identification number (VIN). This number will be saved in the Segway. The vehicle identification number works as the ‘the fingerprint’ of the Segway. This number makes it hard to sell stolen vehicles.
Helmet and drivers license Segway
Riding doesn’t require you to wear a helmet. You also don’t need a drivers license
